Shelby County, MO 1878 Atlas
submitted by Barry Zbornik

Included here are a large number of digital pictures taken December 2003 from the 1878 Atlas of Shelby County, Missouri now in the possession of the Carnegie Library at Shelbina, Missouri.  The original Atlas has been open to public use and has rapidly deteriorated since last I last visited, thus, the motivation to digitize the atlas and made CD copies available to the Library and any other interested parties.

The pictures are located in folders and semi-edited in some cases.  Time constraints limited the amount of editing of the material, but the pictures can be copied and edited for individual personal use.  A large number of pictures have been saved, with redundant duplications, to the meet various needs of individuals doing research.  Folder and picture names will assist in location of specific areas or topics within the Atlas.  The picture file size is moderately large for viewing on some smaller monitors but left larger so that the pictures will print satisfactorily for reference.

Any or all of the material may be copied for personal use and editing of the files, but PLEASE DO NOT COPY FOR RESALE on EbayŽ and other sources.
The atlas on these pages is to remain free and available for anyone interested in Shelby County, Missouri history and genealogy.  Anyone interested in receiving a CD copy, please contact me at:  iowaz((a))swbellnet .  If I change providers, the hotmail address should function for a longer period of time:  iowaz((a))hotmail.com .  My snail mail is:  Barry Zbornik, 625 N. Section, Hannibal, MO 64301.

For those of you who do not presently have image viewing programs loaded on their computers, included here are two programs that can be installed for rapidly previewing pictures.  ACDSee will allow you to view a series of pictures in thumbnail form.  My favorite file management program, which I use nearly 100% of the time, is PowerDeskPro.

I am personally researching Heckart and related early surnames in Ralls and Shelby Counties.  My Heckart side was in the Salt River area from 1838, but basically gone by the late 1800's.
